Two arrested after burglary in progress reported

A reported burglary in progress early Friday morning resulted in the arrest of two men who were seen coming out the door of the house.

D’Angelo Allen, 20, and Dexter Odom, 19, were taken into custody by a police officer who was at the front door of the house, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing Monday.

Detective Bill Wiegand reported that the burglary was reported at 3422 Miramar Drive and when officers arrived, one went to the front of the house while a second went to the back door and saw a man later identified as Allen come out the door.

Kizer said Allen ran back inside the house, and a few minutes later, he and Odom both ran out the front door where an officer ordered them to lie on the ground.

Wiegand reported that Odom complied with the order but Allen jumped up and tried to run and was tazed by the officer.

Kizer said the owner of the property was located and reported that wires to an outside air conditioner had been cut, and there was also damage to an air conditioner located inside the residence.

Allen reportedly claimed that he was going to take the air conditioner and sell it for scrap metal, Wiegand said in the probable cause affidavit.

Kizer said Allen is currently on probation after pleading guilty to charges of residential burglary, theft of property and fleeing, while Odom had no prior convictions or charges pending.

Special Judge Luke Zarkzewski, who was sitting in for District Judge Kim Bridgforth, set a $7,000 cash only bond for Allen and a $7,000 secured bond for Odom, and told them to come back to court Aug. 27.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent both men.
