Turner is right
Editor, The Commercial:
The Rev. Jesse Turner squarely slammed the nail on the head with a 10 lb. sledgehammer in his Dec. 30 response to the Dec. 22 article advocating a return to local control over the Pine Bluff School Board. Just in case you missed his response, he called for a “return to proficiency,” rather than a return to “local control.”
In less eloquent terms than Rev. Turner, I echo his admonition that the citizenry of Pine Bluff play the hand that’s been dealt us remembering that graduating young people prepared to seek gainful employment or continue their educations always trumps whose hand is on the helm.

It also might be well to remember that “democratically elected” school boards exercising “local control” are precisely what landed us in this mess to begin with.
Can I hear an “amen” for Jesse?
