OPINION | LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Trump fouls vets

Trump fouls vets

Editor, The Commercial:

Donald Trump has a documented record of disparaging the military and denigrating us veterans as “suckers,” “losers,” and other slurs against us. I’m one who is 84 years old and spent time in Kue Army Hospital on Okinawa. So I don’t appreciate those insults from the Commander in Chief of the military!

Over the last few days we’ve heard all manner of accolades for “our honorable veterans” from lots of speakers at memorial services. Folks, it all rings hollow as hell coming from many people who voted to return Trump to the Oval Office.

I have no way of knowing who among those speakers and attendees voted for Trump. Only they know who they voted for. I hope that when those who put that abomination back in office look in their mirrors, they sense the degree of revulsion they’d be held in by most of us veterans if the truth of it were known.

We have six people sent by the voters to Congress. Four representatives and two senators. Three of them served in the U.S. Military. I find no record of service by the others. What I do find is that all of them support Trump despite his depredations that are now known nationwide. His involvement in the Jan. 6 insurrection is on his record and known worldwide. They know his stated plans.

Our allies have been abused and disparaged by him after they helped free the world from Nazis. Our alliances world wide have been put in grave jeopardy by some of those same speakers who, over the last few days pretended to patriotism. With Trump getting 64% of the state’s votes in this election, evidence is plain of their falsity and lack of common decency. Integrity is, for many of them, non-existent.

There is much more that needs said, but we have word limits. What’s said here should make some who’re mentioned here think hard!

Karl Hansen,

Hensley
