Trinity Episcopal to host pancake supper Feb. 13

Trinity Episcopal Church, 703 West Third Ave., will host its Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Feb. 13. The men of Trinity and Grace Episcopal churches will serve all-you-care-to-eat pancakes, sausages and all the trimmings from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall of Trinity.

“Parish records show that Trinity’s first Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper was held in 1918 as a Sunday school activity, following a tradition brought from England by a parishioner, William Malley,” according to a news release. “The original pancake recipe was developed by his wife, Gillie ‘Mama’ Malley. Mrs. Malley and several of her friends started the pancake supper as a church social. By the 1930s, the men of the church had taken on the project as an annual fellowship and fund-raising event.”

“The English custom of Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, is a time to make ready one’s house and family for the solemn observance of the season of Lent. In the ancient tradition, it was a time to clear the pantry of items such as butter, cream, sweets and meats, which were abstained from during Lent,” according to the release.

Tickets are $6 and available at the church or at the door Feb. 13. Details: 870-534-3832.
