Trail of Tears Motorcycle Ride to begin Sept. 16

Participants in the 12th annual Trail of Tears Motorcycle Ride from Tennessee to Oklahoma will be stopping in Pine Bluff at approximately 4 p.m. Sept. 16.

There will be approximately 175 to 250 motorcycles on this part of the Trail of Tears Remembrance Motorcycle Ride traveling down U.S. 79 on the way to Wewoka, Okla. Riders will take the bypass and stop at exit 34 of Interstate 530 at U.S. 270.

This ride is in remembrance of Native American tribes displaced due to the Indian Removal Act of the 1830s. The goal is to educate the general public to this monumental and dark historical event and to honor the Native Americans.

The ride also raises funds for scholarships for Native American students through the sale of official merchandise and donations from sponsors.

“We would like for the public to come out along the route to show support to the riders as they pass through your community,” a spokesman said. “We would like to encourage the public to come out to meet and talk with the riders at the stop to learn about this experience.”

The riders come from all over the United States and include Native American riders who represent several tribal nations.
