The Alex Foundation observed National Architecture Week in a project April 15 with high school students at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Tillar.
“Architecture Week is a nationwide celebration recognizing the power of good design, with a goal of inspiring hopeful architecture and design professionals,” according to a news release.
Students explored architecture, design and drones presented by Little Rock-based drone pilot Sean Clark and Memphis-based architect Colby Mitchell.
Mitchell shared what architects do, architecture as the art and science of the built environment, how an architectural drawing becomes a structure, and the different parts that make up a building. Mitchell discussed a career pathway to architecture and introduced students to local architecture including Tillar Bank.
Clark shared how unmanned aircraft systems and systems architecture development can lead to “a promising career,” according to the release.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
He discussed object-oriented systems engineering as it correlates between technologies and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Clark presented his vision for creating a curriculum to help students ages 12-17 prepare for the Federal Aviation Administration Part 107 Certification exam, enabling them to become certified drone pilots and enter the workforce at an early age.
During the event, students engaged in the application of learning by sketching a design of a building in two-point perspective and by flying and landing drones.
Funding in part for the architecture event was made possible by a grant from the Arkansas Arts Council. For more information on the council, visit www.arkansasartscouncil.org.
