Editor, The Commercial:
As a resident of the Fourth Ward, a taxpayer, and pastor in this city, I call on you (Mayor Redus) to immediately offer a public apology to Fourth Ward Alderman Mr. Steven Mays. Strong offense is taken regarding your comments toward Mr. Mays which appeared in the Pine Bluff Commercial on 12-21-11 which states, “You’d do a lot by cleaning up your mind.” Comments like this toward another Pine Bluff public official are reprehensive and very disrespectful. Mr. Mays was only offering an honest solution to help solve a major out of control crime and violence problem in Pine Bluff. His opinions and ideas should be respected as he represents over 12,000 residents in the Fourth Ward.
Mayor Redus every citizen in Pine Bluff should have the right and opportunity to address any issue with you in public without receiving your scorn and ridicule. Your public actions of disdain towards Mr. Mays only lowers the office of mayor and disparages us a “Character City.” As a character city we expect more from you as you represent all of us . Therefore, I call upon you to offer a public apology to Alderman Steven Mays, the 12,000 residents he represents as well as the city of Pine Bluff.
Rev. Jesse Turner
Fourth Ward Resident
