The Pine Bluff Chapter of The Links Inc. co-sponsored its annual walk-a-thon with the Jefferson County 5K Walk-A-Thon to End Childhood Obesity.
On Sept. 26, more than 150 walkers/runners had registered for the event at the Saracen Landing Walking Trail.
Various health screenings were also available for participants. An additional 75 to 100 availed themselves of blood pressure and body mass index tests provided by students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff; blood glucose tests given by Lisa Duke from Jefferson Regional Medical Center; and HIV Aids screenings sponsored by Jefferson Comprehensive Care System.
While Tyson Foods provided turkey dogs, members of The Links provided juice, water, nature bars, bananas, apples, oranges and other fruit to revitalize the walkers/runners at the end of their trek.
Trudy Redus, marketing communication manager for the Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Department, and a member of The Links, served as the coordinator of the event. Eula Liddell serves as the president of The Pine Bluff Chapter of The Links Inc., an international organization of professional women devoted to a collaboration and unification of friendship and service.
