Editor, The Commercial:
I want to thank Rev. Jesse Turner for doing what I wanted to do (Public Forum, Pine Bluff Commercial, Jan. 3, 2012): write a letter to the PBC about the deplorable way in which the mayor spoke to Alderman Steven Mays (PBC 12/21/11). I doubt very seriously if the mayor will apologize — publicly or privately. However, he, and a few others should try to remember and apply the “Golden Rule”: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
I, personally, admire Mr. Mays for persevering. We have all seen his efforts over many years. He has often been the subject of much ridicule as a result. He didn’t give up. He was finally elected. As Rev. Turner stated, Alderman Mays now represents the opinions of the Fourth Ward. If the PBC correctly reported the events of the meeting, I would concur with Alderman Mays. If money has been spent to correct a situation but there is no apparent change, something is wrong.
Thank you Rev. Turner for giving me the courage to do something I wanted to do. Alderman Mays: keep on doing what you are doing. Mayor Redus: some really positive changes on your part would be appreciated.
