Thankful reader

Editor, The Commercial:

This is a long-overdue letter to you (editor Byron Tate) and your staff to tell you how very much I appreciate your work to produce 4 pages of copy and photos 7 days a week for the Pine Bluff Commercial section of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette!

I am also remiss in not having written to thank Walter Hussman for buying the Pine Bluff Commercial and making this daily coverage a priority for the city and our state. Efforts like this show how important it is to keep journalism alive in these challenging times of newspapers closing daily.

Pine Bluff and area residents, as well as the rest of us who read the paper daily, are very fortunate to have the daily iPad newspaper to help us stay abreast of local and regional news.

My late husband John and I moved to Little Rock in May of 1990, but did not lose our love of Pine Bluff, as we had loved it for the 28 years we lived there and raised our four children. They all still speak of how much they loved growing up there!

John and I tried to stay abreast of local news mainly through our longtime close friends Irene Holcomb and Pat Brown, and this section truly helps fill that void. Each day I am now able to read news, both good and disturbing, which is true for all communities.

The main positive difference for Pine Bluff is that it has long had leaders committed to seeking the best quality of life and amenities for everyone who lives and works there. That tradition continues with Mayor Shirley Washington and Go Forward Pine Bluff leader Ryan Watley. Kudos to them and the many volunteers and business leaders for their efforts to rebuild a thriving community serving southeast Arkansas.

Byron, thank you for your decades of professional service to journalism, off and on through the Pine Bluff Commercial. I am so glad you are now able to produce local news in print and online!

Pat Lile,

Little Rock

Much appreciated

The Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson County would like to publicly thank Mr. Bryan Jackson for his nearly four years of dedication to the club. Mr. Jackson, who serves as the chief financial officer of Jefferson Regional, is stepping down as president of the Boys & Girls Club executive board.

Mr. Jackson’s love of the Pine Bluff community and Jefferson County is evident by his involvement in several organizations.

We wish Mr. Jackson and his wife for almost 30 years, Charlotte, many years of good health and many blessings.
