A Pine Bluff teenager was killed and several other people were injured early Saturday morning in a one-vehicle accident on South Olive Street.
Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Shanisah Sharkey, 14, who was pronounced dead at the scene at 3 a.m. by Deputy Coroner Margaret Shell Howsen. The cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma, and Kelley said the body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office later Saturday for an autopsy.
According to a news release from Pinw Bluff Police Officer Roy Gober, the accident was reported at about 2:16 a.m. in the 4400 block of South Olive Street. The vehicle was reportedly traveling north on South Olive Street at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and the vehicle flipped over several times, ejecting at least one of the occupants, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gober reported that there were up to six occupants in the vehicle and they were taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center. No other information was available on the condition of those occupants Saturday morning.
According to the news release, this is an on-going investigation and more information will be released once the investigation is completed.
