Teacher vacancies filled

With the start of a new school year less than a week away, the White Hall School Board on Aug. 14 filled two teacher vacancies and accepted the resignation of one teacher.

Anna Sparks resigned as a teacher at Taylor Elementary School on July 27 and Carrie Bennett was hired to replace her in the classroom. Leigh Ann Weaver was hired as a teacher at Moody Elementary School. The latter two, effective Aug. 14, were conditional upon records and background checks.

In other business, the board:

¦ Agreed that the district’s annual schb3ool election on Sept. 18 be conducted using early voting and absentee ballots only as a cost saving measure. There is only one candidate for each of the seven board seats up for election and no ballot issues proposed.

¦ Approved bids for the purchase of larger trailers for the band program and for use by district maintenance personnel. The Band Booster parents said Simmons First National Bank has agreed to purchase the trailer for use by band students.

¦ Approved a $1,600 stipend for the head tennis coach. ¦ Renewed the district’s membership with the Arkansas School Board Association, agreed to continue the audit services of the Cobb and Suskie Ltd. accounting firm and renewed the district’s catastrophic accident medical insurance policy for students injured in a school sponsored activity, excluding football.
