Taxpayers won’t have extended deadline at post office

A local U.S. Postal Service spokesman said Thursday that no extended postal station hours or curb-side pick-up service will be provided for persons filing their 2011 federal income taxes by mail on the deadline date of Tuesday, April 17.

Regular hours will be maintained at Pine Bluff area postal stations and boxes. Customers are urged to mail their returns as early as possible.

The U.S. Postal Service website lists several area post offices and hours of operation.

• The main post office at Pine Bluff, 100 E. Eighth Ave., is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. – noon.

• White Hall’s post office, 7402 Dollarway Road, operates Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday 8 a.m. – noon.

• Moscow post office, 9201 U.S. 65 South, Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

• Oak Park post office, 2901 S. Fir St., operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-noon.

Meanwhile, a free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site will be offered to taxpayers Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave.

Interested Citizens for Voter Registration will host the event with volunteers certified by the Internal Revenue Service.

VITA offers free income tax filing services to individuals and families with an annual earned income of $50,000 and below.
