A 20-year-old man wanted in connection with the Dec. 30 homicide of Marcus Jackson at a convenience store is now in custody, the Pine Bluff Police Department announced Thursday.
Pine Bluff police will transport Madison back to this city from North Little Rock. Police say Madison will face charges of capital murder, but according to court records, Madison has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault and one count of criminal mischief (causing damage estimated between $1,000 and $5,000). Madison also faces a firearm enhancement of up to 15 years in state prison. The charges were filed Jan. 7.
He is accused of killing Jackson, 29, at SOS convenience store, 3402 Old Warren Road.
While an investigation remains “active and ongoing,” police say, it was determined Madison utilized a rifle during the incident and was considered armed and dangerous.
Police said their detectives, along with one assigned to the FBI task force, received information about Madison’s whereabouts. PBPD detectives surveilled the location Thursday morning and used a SWAT team from North Little Rock police for extraction, since the location was in that jurisdiction.
“We want to extend our sincere appreciation to Pine Bluff’s finest (Detective Division) and the North Little Rock Police Department SWAT team, assisting agencies and all personnel involved in bringing Madison into custody safely,” Pine Bluff police said in a news release. “This outcome is a direct result of strong law enforcement collaboration and professionalism.
“We also want to thank our community for your continued support, patience and assistance throughout this investigation. Your cooperation plays a vital role in helping us keep Pine Bluff safe.”
