Suspect accused of stealing weapon shot

A male accused of stealing a gun from a woman’s vehicle is hospitalized after being shot by the woman, according to Pine Bluff Police.

Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of West 24th Avenue at about 11 a.m. Dec. 7, regarding a report of a male who had been shot, according to a news release. Officers made contact with a resident who said that through her home security system she observed an unknown male inside her vehicle.

She reportedly went outside to confront the individual and discovered her .380 caliber pistol had been taken from the driver’s door.

The resident told police she demanded the return of her pistol. During the argument, police said, two shots were fired, striking the male in the left neck and shoulder area.

“The male fell into a nearby ditch and reportedly admitted to breaking into the vehicle and taking the firearm before fleeing eastbound on foot,” police reported. “The stolen firearm was not recovered at the scene.”

Shortly after, officers were sent to the 1600 block of West 23rd Avenue regarding a report of a male being shot, according to police. Officers located a subject, identified as Dekoda Hill, 23. Hill is said to have matched the earlier suspect description.

Hill was transported to Jefferson Regional for treatment and was unable to provide a statement due to medical intervention, according to police. Hill also has an active felony warrant for theft.
