Supporters to help former inmates in re-entry program

Arkansas ReEntry and Prevention Initiative will launch the P.R.O.G.R.A.M. (Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Reaching Out Gaining Respect, Admiration and Morality). The event will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at 2315 S. Olive St.

The project is an ex-offender peer support group designed to restructure the social life of ex-offenders and help them get their needs met without getting back into crime, according to a news release.

“The group will operate on the old model of Alcohol Anonymous (ex-offenders helping each other stay out of prison),” according to the news release.

The group will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Lead mentors have committed to collaborating with employers to ensure every group member has and maintains gainful employment.
