The Arkansas State Police is investigating the Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Department over possible “irregular activity,” according to Mayor Vivian Flowers.
Flowers confirmed the investigation to the Pine Bluff Commercial Tuesday afternoon, saying the city discovered the activity and immediately turned over related information and evidence to local law enforcement.
Following this initial action, Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Hunter formally asked the state police to investigate the matter, according to Flowers. The State Police agreed to the request and the investigation is now underway, she said.
“As part of the city’s internal response, two employees were terminated in May in connection with the incident,” said Flowers. Flowers emphasized the city’s commitment to the responsible management of public resources and stated that Pine Bluff will fully cooperate with all investigating law enforcement agencies. “The city of Pine Bluff takes the stewardship of public resources seriously,” she said.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the process continues.
