State, Monticello police investigate Sunday shooting that left two dead, one wounded

Special agents of the Arkansas State Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting deaths of two people in Monticello on Sunday.

State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said Monticello police contacted the state police and asked for assistance with the case.

According to a press release, Monticello officers received a call about a shooting at 120 S. Chester St. at about 6:20 a.m. and found Jeremiah Jones, 37, dead inside a car not far from the house. Officers went in the house, where they located the second victim, Shalonda Binns, 37, who was also dead.

Sadler said both victims had what appeared to be gunshot wounds and were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory at Little Rock for autopsies to determine a cause and manner of death.

Police also found Lavar Thomson, no age listed, of Dermott inside the house with a gunshot wound and he was sent to a Little Rock hospital for treatment.
