St. Joseph’s plans Blessing of the Animals

St. Joseph Catholic Church, 412 W. Sixth Ave., will have the Blessing of the Animals at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, on the church’s Walnut Street parking lot. Catholic Daughters will host the event and Noel (Bud) Bryant, a deacon, will officiate the service.

“The blessing of the animals is done to commemorate St. Francis Day (Oct. 4th),” according to a news release. “St. Francis is known as the patron saint of animals and the environment.”

Participants are asked to have pets on proper leashes or in appropriate containers or carriers while attending the event. Everyone is welcome to attend with or without a pet.

St. Francis holy cards and medals will be available free. Door prizes will be given and refreshments will be served following the service.

In case of rain, the event will be held in the breezeway near Gallagher Hall, the Laurel Street side of the church, according to the release.
