Editor, The Commercial:
We oppose spending city tax dollars for a consultant to tell us what we already know, and that is, “follow the established policies and procedures.” If this city has additional dollars, spend it on programs to help elderly or youth.
Recently Rodney Holcomb Jr. a member of the ICVR King Team and a middle school student, stood boldly and intelligently before the Pine Bluff City Council and mayor to thank them for the improvements being made at the Merrill Community Center, which is a good use of city tax dollars. City dollars should go toward street improvement, sidewalks or better yet, develop a much-needed statewide media campaign to tell a positive story about the good things in Pine Bluff.
This consultant idea may be well-intentioned; however, it has not been well thought out. This legislation should have gone to the Public Safety Committee first for discussion. Plus what about the Fire Department? How is it doing? Wasting time, ink and paper developing a resolution to hire a consultant would not be a good use of city resources.
