The Jefferson County Quorum Court will meet in special session at 5:30 p.m. Monday to discuss the agreement the county has with the law firm headed by former Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel. Several members of the Quorum Court have questioned why the firm’s legal counsel is needed, particularly since the county has an attorney, Jackie Harris.
McDaniel, Richardson and Calhoun, PLLC was hired by former Jefferson County Judge Henry “Hank” Wilkins IV in 2017 and represented the county in legal action against the Jefferson County Board of Election Commissioners when they balked at using an election coordinator hired by Wilkins.
Two justices of the peace, Delton Wright and Ted Harden, both said their understanding was that the firm was paid $50,000 last year.
Also on the agenda Monday will be a discussion of the opioid lawsuit involving Arkansas counties.
