Southeast Arkansas students go on community service trip to Oklahoma City

Forty-three students – including students from Rison and Pine Bluff – recently participated in a Southern Arkansas University Housing Department Residential College and Leadership College Community Service/Educational trip in Oklahoma City.

The local students were: Jada Edwards of Rison, a freshman biology-pre health major; Mason Ferguson of Rison, a freshman undecided major; and Ehvan Shaw of Pine Bluff, a sophomore chemistry-pre-health prof biochemistry major.

SAU students contributed to the community of Oklahoma City by moving up to 11,649 pounds of food at the Oklahoma City Food Bank. According to the food bank, it was equivalent to 9,907 meals.

While in Oklahoma City, the 43 students and chaperons also visited the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum and the Oklahoma City Zoo. Two students also won tickets to an Oklahoma City Thunder professional basketball game against the visiting Miami Heat.

SAU Housing takes students in the Residential College and the Leadership College on a community service project each year. They have been on more than a dozen such trips.
