Southeast Arkansas schools win in stock market game

Economics Arkansas honored Southeast Arkansas students among winners of the fall 2016 session of the Stock Market Game, an investment simulation program for students in grades 4-12.

Economics Arkansas hosted a luncheon at Little Rock Jan. 11 for the junior investors. They received cash awards and trophies for growing a hypothetical stock portfolio of $100,000 over the course of 10 weeks.

Southeast Arkansas winners of the fall 2016 session include:

Region 6 — Second Place — Moody Elementary School; adviser, Tiffany Evans; White Hall School District.

Region 6 — First Place and second place — Watson Chapel Junior High School; adviser, Lillian Hemphill; Watson Chapel School District.

Region 6 — First Place — White Hall High School; adviser, Robbie Stewart; Second Place — White Hall High School; adviser, Tiffany Evans, White Hall School District.

Region 2 — First Place — Sheridan Intermediate School; adviser, Sherri DeSoto; Second Place — East End Intermediate School; adviser, Jessica Brown, Sheridan School District.

Also recognized were Robbie Stewart of White Hall High School in the category of Teacher Division.

Economics Arkansas, a nonprofit educational organization that trains educators how to integrate economics and personal finance concepts into the K-12 classroom curriculum, hosts the Stock Market Game program each fall and spring semester.

It is a project-based investment simulation designed to teach saving and investing while also enhancing students’ math, business, communication, economics and analytical skills.
