Live music, line dancing and a bevy of livestock were among the attractions at the Southeast
Arkansas District Fair and Rodeo Thursday. Dozens of people came out for Student and Senior Citizens
Day and it seems that everyone had their fair favorites.
O’Linza Eddington of Pine Bluff said she likes the funnel cakes, corn dogs and the variety of entertainment and displays at the fair.
“I really just enjoy seeing the different people and different exhibits,” she said. “You get so much valuable information.”

“I really enjoy seeing the livestock,” said Virgil W. Miller. “I come every year. I wouldn’t miss it
for the world.”
Six-year-old Nickolas Garner said games topped the list of his favorite things to do. At one stop,
he used a plastic fishing pole to catch colorful plastic fish and won a treat. He along with his Edgewood
Elementary School classmates also visited the livestock area.
“I like the animals – the geese, ducks, roosters and pigs,” he said.
Annie Richardson and Tonesa Adams arrived with other members of The Diamond Line Dancers
to show off their dancing skills. The ladies wore red T-shirts, white pants and straw hats as they smiled
and danced in sync to a variety of songs.
“It’s a way to stay active once you retire,” Richardson said. “You have a chance to go to
convalescent homes and visit older people. It’s a way of giving back to the community.”
Jimmy Norton and his wife, Glenda, sat in the bleachers of the arena and enjoyed free refreshments as they
listened to the powerful vocals and wailing guitars of the Cummins Prison Band. The group performed
Mustang Sally and other tunes.
“I enjoy the live music and I enjoy the livestock as well,” Jimmy Norton said.
The fair continues through Saturday. Friday night and Saturday are designated “Armband Nights,”
from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Everybody’s Talent Show will begin at 6:30 p.m Friday while “Midnite Madness”
will be from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The Southeast Arkansas District Talent Show Finals is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The
rodeo, sponsored by the Arkansas Rodeo Association, will continue Friday and Saturday, beginning at
7:30 p.m. The crowning of the Rodeo Queen will take place during the rodeo on Saturday.
