Crime victims in Southeast Arkansas shared $40,481.84 in reparations from the Arkansas Crime Victims Reparations Fund in June, according to Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel.
Statewide, the board paid out $419,0198.96 for the month, making awards in 312 new cases, and additional expenses were paid in 44 cases that had previously been submitted.
In Jefferson County, the board awarded $28,538.54 on 28 new cases, as well as paid additional expenses in one previously submitted case.
Victims of violent crime in Arkansas may be eligible for reparations from the state program. The reparations are available to help defray the cost of unexpected expenses associated with the crime, such as medical treatment or mental health counseling.
The program was created by the Arkansas General Assembly in 1987 and is funded by court costs, fees and fines imposed on convicted criminals.
