Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Delta Omega Omega Chapter recently organized a personal hygiene drive for Focus Academy, an alternative learning environment school serving middle and high school students in Pine Bluff.
The community service project, held on Jan. 20, collected 786 essential hygiene items including soap, toothpaste, deodorant and other items, according to a news release.
This initiative, inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., sought to uplift students in need while reinforcing the sorority’s commitment to community service.
Delta Omega Omega Chapter’s Uplift our Local Community chairmen, Rose M. Smith and Connie Robinson, expressed their gratitude.

“We are thankful for the overwhelming support from our members and the community. These supplies will make a meaningful difference in the lives of numerous students, helping them feel confident and cared for,” the chairmen said in a release.
The event also aligns with the organization’s ongoing mission of “Service to all mankind.” Its members, alongside their undergraduate chapter, Alpha Rho, participated in the MLK Downtown Marade on Jan. 20 in Pine Bluff, further celebrating King’s legacy.
“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to fighting for equality and dignity for all people,” said Charlese Colen, president of the Alpha Rho Chapter. “His legacy continues to inspire us to strive for a fairer and more just world. By honoring his memory and ideals today, we renew our commitment to building a brighter future for everyone.”
Through initiatives like the hygiene drive and participation in community events, the Delta Omega Omega Chapter continues to lead efforts that foster positive change in Pine Bluff and beyond, according to the release.
Kelli Dixon, president of the Delta Omega Omega Chapter, emphasized the chapter’s commitment to Jefferson County since its chartering on Dec. 11, 1948.
“We remain dedicated to making a meaningful impact through service, leadership, and empowerment,” Dixon said.
