Sorority chapter marks Founders Day

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Delta Omega Omega Graduate Chapter celebrated its 113th Founders Day during the weekend of Jan. 15-18.

The Founders Day tri-chairmen, Damiccah Robertson, Mattie Collins and Onika Luster-Jackson, planned the weekend of events that celebrated members of the chapter, according to a news release.

President Marguerite Flannigan welcomed all members in attendance and shared her excitement for the inauguration of their sorority member, Kamala Harris, who on Wednesday became the nation’s first female and first Black vice president.

“Friday’s event reflected on our founders and celebrated chapter members with 75, 65, 50, and 25 years of service to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated,” according to the release.

Saturday’s featured speaker was Toni McCastle-Freeman, the south-central representative to the international membership committee. The Shirley Denny Spirit of AKA Award was presented to chapter president Flannigan.

The finale Sunday ended with a virtual church service at New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church for all members.
