Small wins Bridge Fund Scholarship

Alex Michael Small was recently awarded the $10,000 Bridge Fund Scholarship from the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation.

Lawrence Fikes, foundation executive director, presented the award May 13 at the Ridgway Christian High School graduation breakfast.

Small is the son of Michael and Patricia Small. Small plans to further his music education at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford at Connecticut with a major in violin performance and music management. He also plans to continue to graduate school to become a concertizing soloist.

He has maintained a grade point average of 4.0 or more through his school career and has been an officer of the RCHS Student Council and National Honor Society.

Small was a foreign exchange student to Germany in 2014 and has numerous awards from Arkansas science fairs. He has been in the Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra Ensembles for nine years and currently serves as concertmaster. He has also been a member and soloist of the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra and concertmaster of the Pine Bluff Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Small is a member of Summit Baptist Church and the Summit Sounds Instrumental Ensemble. He received the 2014 Flake Arkansas Symphony Outstanding Musician Scholarship.
