A detainee at the Jefferson County adult jail was found unconscious in his cell and died two days later at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, sheriff’s officials said Saturday.
Deputies at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Center learned of an unconscious inmate, identified as Johnnie Holder, at about 1:40 p.m. Wednesday and revived him through cardiopulmonary resuscitation, according to a news release. An ambulance was called and paramedics continued with CPR while transporting Holder to Jefferson Regional. He was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Holder was released from custody Thursday and pronounced dead at about 8 p.m. Friday, sheriff’s officials say. His body will be sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for examination and possible determination of the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office, which adds other information will be released when possible.
