Deputy Christopher Blunt Jr. was chosen as the Jefferson County sheriff’s office Uniformed Patrolman of the Year for 2025, and Lt. Christopher Grider has been promoted to captain in the force.
The sheriff’s office announced both achievements Tuesday.
Blunt’s honor recognizes exceptional dedication, professionalism and service to the community, according to a news release. The award is given to an officer who not only meets the demands of everyday patrol duties, but who also goes above and beyond in responsibilities.
“Deputy Blunt’s work exemplifies the values of integrity, courage and compassion, and has made a meaningful impact on the safety and well-being of residents throughout the county,” the release reads.

Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. said Blunt’s dedication and duty reflect the highest standards of the sheriff’s office.
Grider began his career with the sheriff’s office in June 2011 as a jailer. He was activated for military service in Afghanistan and returned to the sheriff’s office in September 2014. He transferred to the warrants division in September 2014 and moved to the patrol division in January 2016.
Grider rose through the leadership ranks in patrol, first to corporal, then sergeant and lieutenant, holding the latter title since April 2020. He transferred to the training division in March 2023 before returning back to the patrol division in April 2024.
“Captain Grider has earned this promotion through years of dedicated service, consistent performance, and leadership both in the field and within our agency,” Woods said. “His military experience, patrol expertise and commitment to mentoring others make him an invaluable asset to the Jefferson County sheriff’s office.”
