The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new website that provides the latest information on the agency in addition to online access to public records like the registry of sex offenders living in the county.
The website, www.jeffcoso.org, features an interactive map showing the sex offenders’ locations, photos and profile information about the offenses committed, according to a press release from JCSO Major Lafayette Woods Jr.
“The safety of county residents is our primary concern at the Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Gerald Robinson said in the release. “We feel the sex offender website map feature allows us to better protect county residents by keeping them informed.”
In addition, the new website features listings for the current Most Wanted felon list, with photos and descriptions; an interactive crime map that displays icons for up to 16 different types of crimes; press releases; messages from the sheriff and an e-newsletter.
There is also an alert notification feature so that the public can sign up for alert notifications from the Sheriff’s Office by email or text. There are links to social media such as Facebook and a link for county residents to submit crime tips via email.

“Posting information on the website improves the efficiency of the Sheriff’s Office by reducing the number of inquiry calls handled by our office,” Robinson said. “This tool allows us to devote more resources to the safety and security of our residents. The new website provides greater transparency for the Sheriff’s Office and encourages the public to take a more active role in community-policing efforts.
“Our intent is for every county resident to visit the site and become familiar with how to locate sex offenders, how to submit a crime tip and where to find the latest news and updates from the Sheriff’s Office,” Robinson said. “We believe this website is a huge benefit for the Sheriff’s Office and the residents of Jefferson County as well.”
In the future, Woods said the website will include jail rosters that will allow the public to view photos and information about people booked into or released from the detention center in the past 48 hours; current information and photos of individuals with outstanding arrest warrants; and a listing of deadbeat moms and dads not paying their child support.
The new website was created by MostWanted.com by Brooks Jeffrey Marketing Inc. of Mountain Home.
