A Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy and his wife were treated for injuries at Jefferson Regional Medical Center Monday and then arrested after the two were involved in a reported domestic disturbance.
Deputy Leon Warren, 57, and Gloria Warren, 51, allegedly exchanged words, then got into a physical altercation at about 5:30 p.m. at a house in the 1000 block of West 27th Avenue.
According to a report from Pine Bluff Police Sgt. Derrick Neal, Leon Warren was struck on the back of the head by a glass object which resulted in bleeding, and Gloria Warren had cuts on her hands, welts to the arms, and scratches on her shoulder.
Neal reported that Leon Warren said that during the altercation, his wife attempted to grab one of his service weapons and he had to wrestle the gun away from her. Gloria Warren denied the statements, telling Neal there was never a gun involved and she did not reach for a gun.
A report from Officer Chris Powell said when he arrived at the scene, he took custody of a pistol belonging to Leon Warren from another deputy, who had responded to Leon Warren’s radio call reporting the disturbance.

The report from Neal also indicated that Gloria Warren had undergone surgery on Aug. 1 and was wearing a neck brace as a result of that surgery.
Because of their statements and obvious injuries, both Leon Warren and Gloria Warren were arrested for third-degree domestic battery Monday and were both released on their own recognizance following a court appearance Tuesday morning before Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney.
Sheriff’s Department Operations Commander Major Lafayette Woods Jr. said Tuesday morning that Deputy Warren, who is assigned to the Transport Division, has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of an investigation into the incident.
