Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies will be out in force Thursday and Friday attempting to locate and serve arrest warrants on people who are delinquent in paying court ordered child support.
The initiative is called “Operation Mother’s Day,” which was coined by Sheriff Gerald Robinson when he first ran for office in 2006, promising he would hold deadbeat dads accountable regarding financial support for their children.
“The mission of this operation is and always will be to ensure children and families receive court ordered financial and medical support from deadbeat dads and non-custodial parents,” Robinson said. “Although complaints from single mothers regarding little to no financial support of their children from deadbeat dads has minimized since the launch of this operation, non-support from deadbeat dads continues to be a problem for some single mothers struggling to make ends meet.”
Sheriff’s Office personnel have compiled a list of individuals who are currently listed as non-compliant with the Office of Child Support Enforcement regarding court ordered support payments.
Those people are urged to get in compliance by making arrangements with the Child Support Enforcement Office by Thursday. If they remain non-compliant, they can turn themselves in to the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center, or risk being arrested during the operation.
