Sheridan school to plant trees in forestry project

SHERIDAN — Sheridan Elementary School will host a Shade Trees on Playgrounds (STOP) Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20.

As a recipient of a grant from the Arkansas Forestry Commission’s STOP program, the school will receive five new shade trees, according to the news release.

Faculty, staff and students at Sheridan Elementary will plant trees on their playground during the event.

Up to 10 schools in Arkansas are chosen each year for the STOP program implemented by the Arkansas Forestry Commission in an effort to lower the risk of skin cancer in children and to teach children about the value of trees, according to the news release.
