Sheridan claims first-place tie with win

Josh Miller went 4 for 4 at the plate, including an opposite-field solo homerun, as Sheridan (19-5, 8-2) beat Benton 7-3 in 6A-South baseball action Wednesday afternoon.

Grady Finley picked up the win on the mound, going four innings, allowing six hits and striking out one.

Landon Huggins came on in relief with runners at first and third and no outs in the fifth and held Benton scoreless for the final three innings, allowing one hit and fanning one.

Justin Glidden was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Finley was 2 for 3 and drove in a run.

With the win, Sheridan claimed a tie for first place in the conference with El Dorado (9-2 6A-South) with three division games remaining. The Yellowjackets will host Pine Bluff at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Texarkana 3, Pine Bluff 2

Texarkana scored on a direct kick with four minutes left to beat Pine Bluff 3-2 on Wednesday.

For Pine Bluff (2-8, 2-8 in 6A-South), Jairo Ledesma scored on a corner kick and Lorenzo Williams added the Zebras’ other goal. Cedric Wells made 15 saves.

Pine Bluff plays at 7 p.m. today at Sheridan.
