Sharks sweep Lyon doubleheader

Southeast Arkansas College posted double-digit runs Wednesday in its second baseball doubleheader sweep of the Lyon College junior varsity in Batesville.

SEARK broke a 3-3 tie with 9 runs in the ninth inning to win the first game, 12-3, and then won the second game 13-8. Lyon was saddled with 7 errors combined in the doubleheader.

Chris Clark and Darron Degeyter each had 2 hits to lead the winning Sharks in Game 1. Howard Bachus Jr., Diego Garcia and Degeyter each batted in 2 runs. In all, SEARK (10-11) collected 11 hits to Lyon’s 5.

Trenton Zarechi struck out 7 in 4 innings and held the Scots to 1 hit to pick up the win.

SEARK fattened a 5-2 lead in the second game with a 6-run fifth inning. J.T. Grace and Gatlon Steele each totaled 2 hits, helping the Sharks stack 9 hits in the game. Drake Lee drove in 2 runs.

Camden Carver hit a triple. Clark, Lee and Cameron Gonzalez each doubled.

Jacob Masters struck out 4 and allowed 3 earned runs on 2 hits in 3 1/3 innings for the win.

SEARK won a doubleheader against the Lyon JV on Feb. 21 also in Batesville. The Sharks have won 6 of their last 8 and have matched their longest winning streak of the season.

SEARK will host Louisiana’s John Melvin College in doubleheaders starting at 1 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Saturday. That starts a 9-game home stand at Eddie Bryan Field, with the Henderson State University JV coming for a twin bill March 5 and North Arkansas College visiting for a weekend series.

The SEARK softball team will play a double dip at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss., starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
