A Wyatt Darby single allowed Landon Brown to race home from second and beat the throw to the plate for the winning score Friday in Southeast Arkansas College’s 2-1 win over John Melvin University of Louisiana at Eddie Bryan Field.

SEARK won for the fifth time in a row to start a doubleheader, but had to settle for a split after John Melvin took a 7-3 win in the second game.

John Melvin, based in Crowley, scored a run with 2 out in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but that only set up the dramatic finish. Drake Lee put the Sharks (11-12) on the board with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Owen Stover earned the pitching win for the Sharks, which will resume its 4-game set against the Millers with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today.
