OPINION | LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Shameful people

Shameful people

Editor, The Commercial:

Donald Trump has disparaged America’s military veterans, POWs, her military dead and the Gold Star parents and spouses of veterans. He never served, claiming “heel spurs,” which are not permanently disabling. No record can be located verifying that he was diagnosed as such. He also disparaged military veterans like me, in my early 80s who spent time in military hospitals.

My question to all Republicans, especially the veterans among you elected to serve as our senators and representatives: What are you thinking?

It is “D-Day” as I write this. Those of you supporting Trump do know about him, what I have stated here and more. You are apparently too spineless and lacking in integrity to firmly denounce him and those of his stripe who infest this country these days! He disparages you and the ones who fought and died for the freedom you have today.

I’d highly recommend that the whole bunch of you make it a point to watch the films of the Normandy Invasion, which I watched the last few days, and the documentary, Vietnam, made by master filmmaker Ken Burns.

Get an eyeful of the horror those men and women endured and died of so you could live here in this land among the decent ones who are left.

All Republicans are not guilty of these transgressions — but the ones who are not are derelict in making their revulsion toward that walking abomination apparent publicly. Get some lessons in common decency please.

Karl Hansen,

Hensley
