Serve God or Man
Editor, The Commercial,
Recently, I sent a letter chiding a preacher for “tooting his own horn,” as my mother would say it, about Trump’s notice of him.
When “kudos” are in order I try to be timely with those as well. Dec. 4 issue has a letter with his name and four lines of identification as usual. He is to be lauded for his letter’s content. His observations are “on point.” He might have more succinctly said to vote for candidates who can first prove what they know about doing the work involved, and not by who they know, their race or ethnicity.
Now, as a favor to him I’ll suggest he read and take notes on the article by Jamelle Bouie across from his letter. Having done so, there should be some introspection by him, as a man claiming to be Christian minister. Can he, with a good and clear conscience, continue to publicly support this specimen of a president now practicing anything but Christianity from the Oval Office?

If this minister is, as has been reported, a Republican, there’s no shame in that. If he is a Trump supporter, which is neither a true conservative nor a true Republican — then his ordination should compel him to clarify that. If he cannot, “Choose ye this day whom ye will serve — God or Man” and state it for the enlightenment of those he leads publicly, then perhaps a silence in response would tell us which it is.
