Sen. Mark Pryor to speak at Aquaculture/Fisheries Field Day Oct. 2 at UAPB

U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor will be the luncheon speaker at Aquaculture/Fisheries Field Day on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Field Day registration, a trap shoot, poster sessions and tours will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the UAPB Aquaculture Research Station off Oliver Road. The Catfish Farmers of Arkansas-sponsored luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m.

A tractor tour will feature presentations on preventing fish losses from hydrogen sulfide, developing crappie hybrids and triploids, whether golden shiners can be raised in the new split-pond production systems and the fundamentals of split-pond engineering.

The walking tour will focus on evidence collected to date of fish losses because of diving ducks, successful trials growing largemouth bass indoors, treating diseases in split ponds and intensive systems, veggie diets for bass and what consumers will pay for catfish and baitfish.

Field day activities will be followed by a Catfish Farmers of Arkansas board meeting at 1 p.m. and an Arkansas Catfish Promotion board meeting at 2 p.m.
