The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has promoted assistant soccer coach Jayme Selph to head coach, the university announced Monday.

Selph had been serving as interim head coach since former head coach Erik Solberg left in January for the same role at Gardner-Webb.

“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to begin my collegiate coaching journey here at UAPB,” Selph said in a statement. “I’m excited to bring a new environment of energy, competitiveness, and passion to the soccer field. The soccer field has been the only place that I have gravitated to for as long as I can remember. Here’s to another journey!”

Selph joined the UAPB soccer staff as an assistant in 2023. The Lady Lions went 9-11-1 overall and 4-5 in SWAC play last season. UAPB finished fifth in the league.

The Benton native played collegiately at Central Baptist College. She finished with the second-most goalkeeper wins in school history and was top-five in goals against average and minutes. She went on to play professionally with the Little Rock Rangers and Arkansas Wolves Women.

UAPB athletic director Chris Robinson said in a statement he was pleased to name Selph the program’s new head coach.

“She has established herself as a rising star in the college coaching ranks during her time as an assistant with the Golden Lions last season,” Robinson said. “We were impressed with the vision she presented for the future of the team and her views on the holistic development of student-athletes, and we are excited to see her build on the program’s track record of success in recent years.”
