Second suspect sought in April homicide

Pine Bluff police have identified a second suspect in the shooting death of a man who was found inside a car that was reportedly blocking traffic in the 100 block of West 26th Avenue on April 7.

Capt. Greg Shapiro said Deandre Brown, 19, is wanted on probable cause of capital murder in the death of Devan Ward, 21.

A doctor in the emergency room at Jefferson Regional Medical Center pronounced Ward dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the neck.

Shapiro said Brown should be considered armed and dangerous. He was described as a black male, 6-feet tall, weighing 250 pounds.

A second suspect, Samuel Mosby, 20, was arrested April 7 and is being held on probable cause of capital murder in the incident, pending the filing of formal charges by the prosecutor’s office.

During a court hearing for Mosby on April 9, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said police determined that the car Ward was found in had been reported stolen in Little Rock in March and during their initial investigation, identified Mosby as a possible suspect.

Detective Bill Wiegand reported that detectives went to Mosby’s residence in the 100 block of West 26th Avenue and he initially denied any involvement.

Kizer said investigators later received information that led them back to Mosby’s residence where they located a .9-millimeter handgun believed to be the murder weapon in an outbuilding after M0sby’s mother gave them permission to search.

Wiegand reported that during a second interview, Mosby told investigators he had been sitting in a car with Ward and another person, whom he did not identify, and the other person shot Ward.

Mosby said he and the other person ran to Mosby’s house where the other person, who police now believe was Brown, gave him the gun and told him to hide it.

Shapiro said a reward is available for information leading to the arrest of Brown.
