SEARK, UAPB topics at Sesame Club

The Sesame Club monthly meeting at Pine Bluff Country Club was opened by President Dianna Millenbaugh with the theme for the year, “Positively Pine Bluff; Established Forces.”

Pat Reese opened the program “Education SEARK and UAPB.”

According to Reese, Southeast Arkansas College, formerly Pines Vocational Technical School, is under the direction of President Stephen Hilterbran. With core courses leading toward a four-year college degree, hours taken at the college transfer to any four year college in Arkansas. Nancy Ryburn, SEARK psychology professor, presented information on the General Studies program, including the fact that classes are limited to 30 students and persons over 60 years of age can attend tuition free.

Reese stated that the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is under the direction of Chancellor Laurence Alexander. Students have the opportunity to choose from several sources of study, including a world-class aquaculture doctorate program. Ruth Roberts, PhD, discussed teaching English and creative writing at UAPB for 25 years, and mentioned students’ achievements in the work force and their ability to continue their education for higher degrees after graduation from UAPB.

Hostesses for the meeting were Ellen Nucholls, Jacque Walker, Bonnie Green and Sue Smith. Table decorations depicted an educational theme with red checked table clothes and big baskets of red apples that were given out to the members.

Dianna Millenbaugh announced that the Christmas luncheon would be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Pine Bluff Country Club and the importance of members to respond to the callers as to whether they will attend. The meeting was adjourned.
