SEARK opening games delayed

Southeast Arkansas College’s softball debut will have to wait until after the weekend, and its baseball opener is now a Tuesday doubleheader.

Rain in the Mississippi Delta region forced SEARK and Mississippi Delta Community College to reduce its set of two doubleheaders Friday and Saturday to a Monday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in Moorhead. SEARK will play its first regular-season athletic event with the opener, before heading to Youngsville, La., for a four-game tournament Feb. 2-3. The first home softball game is scheduled for Feb. 18 against Mississippi’s Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

SEARK’s baseball opener against South Arkansas College was moved back a day to Tuesday and will now be a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. That will kick off an eight-game homestand for the Sharks at the Relyance Bank Athletic Center, formerly the Seabrook Activity Center.

SEARK is not contending for any league championships due to its first-year status in athletics. All of its sports teams will be eligible for championships starting in the 2024-25 school year.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this brief stated an incorrect home softball date.
