The Southeast Arkansas College Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure Team will make a human pink ribbon and release balloons Friday at 12:15 p.m. by the flag pole.
SEARK’s Office of College Affairs is holding a month-long observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink lights will be placed around campus. Buildings will be decorated inside with Breast Cancer Awareness decorations. The Library and Center for E-Learning has dedicated its exhibit area to Breast Cancer Awareness. All students and employees are encouraged to wear pink on Friday. A limited number of pink ribbons for lapel will be available in the advisement center in the Student Services Building for students and employees.
“The college has more than 30 participants signed up for the SEARK Team,” Sherri Roberts, SEARK College Team coordinator, said. “We are excited about participating in this annual event.”
The Komen Arkansas Race for the Cure will be held Saturday in downtown Little Rock.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that breast cancer is the most common cancer among women of all races. Approximately one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, according to BreastCancer.org. While breast cancer is less likely in men, the American Cancer Society states that men have a one in 1,000 chance of developing breast cancer.
