The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and the University of Arkansas System were given the green light to hire an executive search firm to assist in the selection of a new UAPB chancellor.
A legislative committee of the U of A System Board of Trustees reviewed the contract with Florida-based Greenwood/Asher and Associates Inc. Sept. 5.
“We have agreed to a flat fee of $70,000 for the search process and up to $10,000 in direct expenses,” said U of A System spokesman Ben Beaumont. “The contract will last from Sept. 22 of this year through June 30, 2013.”
Beaumont said that funds for the search firm will come from the UAPB budget.
“Greenwood/Asher will help draft position specifications, help advertise the position and recruit candidates,” Beaumont said. “They will work with the advisory committee established by [U of A System] President [Donald R.] Bobbitt to recruit candidates for the chancellor position.”

The advisory committee is made up of UAPB students, faculty, staff, alumni and community leaders, according to an Aug. 22 press release issued by the U of A System.
Beaumont said that a new chancellor will hopefully have been selected by June 30 of next year.
“Greenwood will help us to determine the timeline of the chancellor search,” Beaumont said.
The new chancellor will succeed Lawrence A. Davis Jr., who retired from the post in May after heading the university for more than 20 years.
Bobbitt appointed retired long-time UAPB educator and former dean Calvin Johnson to the post of interim chancellor in April.
Johnson will serve as chancellor until a successor is found.
