School registration begins

Registration is underway at the White Hall School District for the 2012-13 school year that begins Aug. 20. There will be some changes in procedures this year as the district converts from the junior high school to middle school format, said Dorothy Welch, assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and technology.

New students can register at the four elementary schools from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Schedules by schools:

White Hall High School: Seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen can pick up their class schedules during the first period on Aug. 20. First periods will be posted on the front door of the high school at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17.

Parking permit schedules: Seniors, 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 9; juniors, 9 a.m to noon, Aug. 10; sophomores, 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 13; and freshmen, 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 14.

To obtain a parking permit, students must provide a driver’s license, proof of insurance, vehicle registration and a $10 fee.

White Hall Middle School: Schedules will be handed out to current eighth-grade students at the school from 9-11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10; new eighth grade students can register from 1-3 p.m.; current seventh grade students at the school from 9-11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13; new seventh grade students can register from 1-3 p.m.; current sixth grade students at the school from 9-11:30 a.m., Tuesday Aug. 14; new sixth grade students can register from 1-3 p.m.

Students will be able to obtain their schedules, open lockers and walk through the campus.

Redfield Middle School: Students can pick up their class schedules during the first period on Aug. 20. First periods will be posted on the front door of the middle school at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17.

Gandy, Hardin, Moody and Taylor elementary schools: Home rooms will be posted on the front door of the schools on Aug. 17 at 4 p.m.

Parents and guardians who want to enroll an elementary school student prior to Aug. 20 should call the school prior to arrival between 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to make sure someone is in the office to assist with the registration. A parent or guardian must complete the registration.

Documentation required for elementary school registration includes a birth certificate; Social Security card; up-to-date immunization records; current proof of home address, including an August rent receipt or utility bill; legal documents, which may include a divorce decree, custody papers and guardian papers; and school records, including a grade transcript or report card, and supplemental program records, including IDEA, Section 504, Title 1 reading and Title 1 math.

Moody Elementary: 700 Moody Ave., White Hall, (870) 247-4363, Beth Joslin, principal; and

Taylor Elementary: 805 West St., White Hall, (870) 247-1988, Tammie Canada, principal.

Welch said parents or guardians with additional questions can check the individual school’s website.
