School board filing period ends

The one-week filing period for school board candidates in Jefferson County ended at noon Tuesday with a number of incumbents drawing challengers for the Sept. 18 school board elections.

Katherine Wooldridge, senior deputy clerk for voter registration with the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, reported that most of the sitting Pine Bluff School District Board of Directors have drawn opponents, as have the two Watson Chapel School District board members with open seats.

Pine Bluff school board zone 1 director Harold Jackson and zone 5 director Kenneth Dickson are the only members of the that board who will not face at least one opponent in the September elections.

Pine Bluff zone 2 board member Ellen Nichol will face Mark Essex Smith and Phyllis A. Wilkins; board president and zone 3 representative Herman Horace, will face Maurice Culclager and Piccola Washington; board secretary Freddie M. Johnson, representing zone 4, will face Lee Meadows and Henry Dabner Jr.; board vice president and zone 6 representative Donna Barnes will face Carvis J. Campbell and Leon Jones Sr.; zone 7 board member Chandra Griffin will face Andrea Little-Roaf and the Rev. Johnny Smith.

Two members of the Watson Chapel School District Board of Directors will face challengers in September.

Board vice president and zone 3 and 5 at-large representative Sandra C. Boone will face Harold Clark; board secretary and zone 3 representative Ronnie Reynolds will face Roslynn Moye.

In the White Hall School District, all sitting members of the board are running unopposed, including zone 1 representative and board secretary Roy Agee; zone 2 representative and board president Scott Pittillo; zone 3 representative and board vice president Scott Ray; zone 4 representative Raymond F. Jones; zone 5 representative Connie Medsker; at large position 1 representative Stacey Gossage; and at large position 2 representative Dean Dancer.
