Re: The letter from Stu Soffer in The Commercial of April 25.
I have not read the “Stolen Valor Act” that he refers to, but I do have a problem with those who never served but claim to have. However, to my knowledge, most businesses that offer a “military discount” also offer a “veterans discount.”
I did not retire with 20 (years) as did Mr. Soffer, but I did serve in excess of 12 years and served in Vietnam as a hospital corpsman with both the 1st and 3rd Marine Divisions.
I am not hesitant to say that I probably saw more combat than did Mr. Soffer and it appears that he would denigrate my service and that of other veterans who did not serve for 20 years.

I am 60 percent disabled due to the time in Vietnam and I am boiling after reading his letter. I think he is indeed fortunate that the “ex-Marine” he referred to did not deck him, and I certainly hope that he never makes the mistake of getting in my face if he sees me use my service connected VA ID card to obtain a discount.
I know that among the vets that I know, Mr. Soffer is not very well thought of. I would honestly like to see his chest full of medals as I am sure he has them after having served for 20 years. I must state that after having read his letter, it is evident that he is an a.. .
