Saracen Landing to host farmers market event

The National Farmers Market Week celebration will end Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Saracen Landing Farmers Market. The market will be open 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Monday, Aug. 3, was National Watermelon Day and participants will be tasting watermelons Saturday. Activities will also include a watermelon-eating contest at 10:30 a.m. and a hula hoop contest will also be held.

The Arkansas Farmers Market Association is hosting a contest for markets that showcase a special event for the week. The association will highlight the winning market next week.

The public is invited to come out and support their local markets.

“Sincere appreciation is extended to every farmer the week of Aug, 2-8, 2015, as we recognize National Farmers Market Week,” a spokesman said.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson and USDA Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack declared this week National Farmers Market Week. Details: 536-0920.
